What is a d.i.y. space?

Liberty Hall is not a consumer-based project. We do not serve up activities for passive ingestion. Rather, we provide an amazing space for the community to utilize. If you have something to offer, be it a class, workshop, event, benefit or time, you can be a part of Liberty Hall.

Host an event

The space is available for dances, concerts, classes, workshops, meetings, dramatic performances, video screenings, art openings, brunches, benefits…you get the idea. Rates are based on the impact your event will have on LH facilities, neighbors, volunteers, etc. We make the space available at the lowest cost possible while still (barely) covering expenses.

Arrangements other than rental agreements are frequently made, such as volunteer exchanges, splitting the door, sponsorship by a LH member, or a combination.  We are big fans of creative solutions.

Volunteer

This space runs on volunteer energy alone. Specific skills we are seeking include web design, electrical, carpentry and grantwriting. Any time or skills you can offer this project are greatly appreciated.

Share your skills

Liberty Hall also serves as a center for community education, including ongoing classes and shorter-term workshops. If you have a skill to share with the community, contact us.

We are currently setting up a community craft space and public access computer lab. We are looking for people to sponsor facets of these projects, such as signing up to give a weekly orientation around the sewing machines or teaching  a workshop in basic web design. By getting involved with these or other projects, you can help this space be more than an event space; you can help Liberty Hall become a community resource, every day.

Build a partnership

We are open to ongoing, symbiotic partnerships with community organizations. We can offer work and/or office space, a kitchen, event space and more to radical groups. If you see a space for your group at Liberty Hall, contact us and start a dialogue.

Donate

Most of the supplies needed to run this space are easily found, such as t.p. and surge protectors. Check out the wishlist on our website to see if there’s anything in your free box we could use (we really want a theater-style popcorn machine).

Of course, we’re open to monetary donations by cash, check or even credit card.

Become a Member:

Liberty Hall is a collectively run space. All decisions regarding the policies and direction of the project are made by Collective members. Members volunteer at least 10 hours a month, attend regular meetings, participate in at least one committee and in the day-to-day operations of Liberty Hall. Members are able to sponsor events, ongoing classes, workshops or anything else they can dream up, provided it does not interfere with the continuance of the project.

To become a member, you are first approved by the collective as a provisional member. This allows you to sponsor events and hold a key until the collective has had a chance to see you are reliable and someone we all want to be engaged in a consensus-based group with.  In general, people approach the collective with a project they want to put on, and are approved as a provisional member on the basis of that project. Want to learn more? Attend a meeting. Meetings are held every two weeks, on rotating days. For info on the next meeting, email us.

If you are interested in volunteering, donating, becoming a collective member, renting the space or just learning more about this project, give us a call:503-249-8888
or send us an e-mail:
